Sen’jin was the chieftain of the Darkspear trolls, a small tribe that settled on the Echo Isles off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale after being pushed out of stronger troll territories. The Darkspear were not a dominant tribe. They survived by staying isolated, relying on jungle resources, and maintaining strong spiritual ties to the loa. Sen’jin led through spiritual authority, acting as both chieftain and witch doctor, guiding the tribe through rituals, visions, and interpretation of the loa’s will.
During this period, the Darkspear lived with constant pressure from surrounding threats, but the situation escalated when the local murlocs began coordinated attacks. These were not normal raids. The murlocs became organized and aggressive, capturing trolls instead of just killing them. This shift was caused by the influence of Hakkar the Soulflayer, the Blood God, whose followers were using the murlocs to gather sacrifices.
At the same time, Thrall and his orcs arrived after being shipwrecked during their journey west in Warcraft III. Thrall encountered Sen’jin while both groups were dealing with the same threat. Sen’jin assessed the situation quickly: his tribe was losing ground, and the murloc attacks were tied to something far larger than a local conflict.

Sen’jin chose to ally with Thrall. This was a direct decision based on survival. The Darkspear did not have the strength to repel the attacks alone, and Thrall’s forces provided immediate military support. In return, Sen’jin committed his tribe to the orcs’ cause. This event marks the official alignment of the Darkspear trolls with the Horde.
Following the alliance, joint efforts pushed back against the murlocs temporarily, but the underlying threat remained. During this conflict, Sen’jin was captured by murlocs. He was taken to be sacrificed as part of rituals tied to Hakkar’s influence. While imprisoned, Sen’jin experienced a vision through the loa.
In that vision, he saw that:
- The Horde would survive and grow
- The Darkspear would endure by staying with the Horde
- His son, Vol’jin, would become a key leader in the future
After this, Sen’jin was sacrificed by the murlocs and died.
Before his death, he instructed Thrall to lead the Darkspear trolls and ensure their survival by bringing them fully into the Horde. Thrall honored this and took responsibility for the tribe.
