How to Get the Raven Lord Mount in The Burning Crusade

The Raven Lord is one of the most recognizable mounts from The Burning Crusade. It drops from Anzu, a hidden boss inside Sethekk Halls in Auchindoun, Terokkar Forest. Unlike normal dungeon bosses, Anzu had to be summoned, which made the mount rare and gave the encounter a bit of mystery when it first appeared in TBC.

This guide walks through exactly how players obtained the mount during TBC and what you needed to do to farm it.

Where the Mount Drops

The Raven Lord mount drops from Anzu in:

  • Dungeon: Sethekk Halls
  • Location: Auchindoun, Terokkar Forest
  • Difficulty: Heroic only
  • Drop rate: very low (around 1–2%)
  • Lockout: once per day per character

Anzu is optional and does not appear unless he is summoned.

Step 1: Unlock Heroic Sethekk Halls

Anzu only appears in Heroic mode.

To enter Heroic Sethekk Halls in TBC you needed:

  • Level 70
  • Honored reputation with Lower City
  • Purchase the Heroic key from the Lower City quartermaster in Shattrath

Once you have the key, you can set the dungeon to Heroic difficulty.

Step 2: Bring a Druid (Early TBC Requirement)

When Anzu was first introduced in Patch 2.1, only a druid could summon him.

To do this, the druid had to complete the Swift Flight Form quest chain, which rewarded an item called the Essence-Infused Moonstone.

This item allowed the druid to summon Anzu inside the dungeon.

Later in TBC, Blizzard removed the druid requirement, but during early progression you needed one.

Step 3: Summon Anzu

Inside Heroic Sethekk Halls:

  1. Clear the dungeon normally.
  2. After the main trash and bosses, reach the room near the final boss area.
  3. Find the raven statue.
  4. If using the original method, the druid activates the statue using the moonstone.
  5. Anzu appears and the fight begins.

If no druid was present (before the restriction was removed), the boss would not spawn.

Step 4: Defeat Anzu

Anzu uses shadow magic and periodically summons bird spirits to assist him. The fight includes banish phases where players must survive waves of adds.

For TBC-era groups, this was a moderate difficulty encounter but manageable with decent gear and coordination.

Step 5: Loot and Repeat

After defeating Anzu:

  • The Raven Lord mount has a small chance to drop.
  • The dungeon can only be run once per day on Heroic difficulty.
  • Farming typically meant daily runs until it dropped.

Because of the low drop rate, some players ran the dungeon for months before seeing the mount.

Patch Changes During TBC

When Anzu and the mount were added in Patch 2.1:

  • Only druids could summon the boss.
  • The mount became one of the rarest dungeon drops.

Later updates removed the druid requirement, making farming easier while keeping the drop rate low.

Tips for Farming Efficiently

  • Run the dungeon daily to maximize attempts.
  • Bring a group that can clear quickly.
  • Skip unnecessary pulls to save time.
  • Expect a long grind — persistence matters more than luck.

Why the Raven Lord Became So Popular

The Raven Lord stood out because it required more than just killing a boss. Players needed heroic access, a specific summoning method, and the patience to farm a rare drop. Its dark avian design and connection to Outland’s arakkoa lore made it visually distinct, and early owners were often recognized immediately.

For many players, finally seeing the mount drop after weeks of runs became a memorable TBC moment.
